Witold Lutosławski's musical influences on others, the humble man that he was and his moments during the war. We hope the film to be educational and entertaining and share it with you.
Our Research
We were even more inspired to make this film after researching and interviewing conductors and musicians who have met Lutosławski and live in Warsaw today. This includes also his publisher, PWM Edition and musicologists.
In the film, we will hopefully see scenes from inside his actual house in the Warsaw suburb, the orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, playing and much more.
Synopsis
Letters To Lutosławski is a short film project about the life and work of the Polish composer and conductor Witold Lutosławski (1913-1994).
The story is told with the point of view of a female violin player, TANYA, partly through a voice over narration. The voice we hear is a letter Tanya writes to his teacher, Witold Lutosławski.
We see glimpses of Lutosławski during the war, composing music and interacting with the audience.
Collaborations
We are lucky and greatful that helping us with locations and archive questions are: Chopin University of Music, Polish Music Information Centre, Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne, The Polish Institute, The Lutosławski Society and Sinfonia Varsovia.

We would like to make a short film that reveals the amazing story of the great Polish composer Witold Lutosławski's life (1913-1994).
”When a musical idea comes to me, I ask myself if it has any value, not just at the first performance but at the 100th.”
